A Darker Shade Of Magic by V.E. SCHWAB

TITLE: A Darker Shade Of Magic (Book 1 Of  SHADES OF MAGIC  series) AUTHOR: V.E. SCHWAB PUBLICATION YEAR: 2015 GENRE: Fantasy PAGE COUNT: 384 FORMAT: Paperback AVAILABLE   AT : amazon Recently I saw a video where the content creator talked about how “ The Shades of Magic “ series by V.E. Schwab  successfully distracted her while she was going through some tumultuous times. Lately I have been feeling a bit low myself ( due to pregnancy mood swings and occasional anxiety) and I wanted something like that which could engage and engross me. So,   I bought the box set of “ The Shades of Magic “ series hoping that reading these books would work for me the same way it worked for her. Guess what..!! It did. 😄 I just finished the first book to the series “  A Darker Shade of Magic ” and I have to say – it is not the most intellectual or literary novel but it most certainly is highly entertaining. It is a page turner which will

An Abundance Of Katherines by John Green | BOOK REVIEW

PUBLICATION YEAR- 2006 AUTHOR- John Green GENRE- Young Adult Fiction PAGE COUNT-213 FORMAT- Paperback AVAILABLE AT -  amazon Lately I have been craving for some fun frothy books. Don’t worry...!!  I am still loyal to my favorite fantasy genre . But they say that when you are expecting, you need to subject your baby to happy sounds and feelings. Since, my inclination is deep dark fantasy with as much gore, guts and blood as possible, I decided to take a break and may be explore light-hearted genres. Hence I started looking for books with humor in it which could potentially make me laugh-out-loud.😃 I have always been a huge fan of John Green ever since I read “ The Fault in our Stars ”. I think he writes great characters. Unfortunately the same can't be said about his plot/story. Anyways, I love all his books except for “ Looking for Alaska ” which I found extremely disturbing and even annoying to a certain degree. This is str

I remember buying the next book in the series The Angel’s Game almost immediately after finishing it. I was so impressed by the writing and plot that I had to read all the books from this author- translator duo. Considering this being a part of series called Cemetery of Forgotten Books , I was under the impression that this book was either a prequel or sequel to The Shadow of the Wind . But after reading a few chapters , I realised that although the story was set in Barcelona and features the infamous Cemetery of Forgotten Books (which was also a

CHENNAI BOOK FAIR 2019 | The Books I Bought

In my New Year Resolution tag ( see here ) , I kinda promised myself to finish my TBR pile before going on my next book shopping spree. As expected I managed to break my resolution even before 2 weeks of setting it. The reason – CHENNAI BOOK FAIR 2019 . I went to the book fair yesterday and bought a couple of books.   I know...   I have absolutely no SELF CONTROL whatsoever. But in my defence, these books were available at really cheap prices . Also , might I add this book fair was the best I have ever been to.   I ended up straining my leg muscles due to all the walking around and checking out each and every stall . By the time I reached my house , I had severe headaches and leg pains – but all of this was totally WORTH IT...!! 😊 Following are the books I bought – 1.        The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga – I heard about this book back when I was preparing for my competitive exams . I was memorising the current affairs and that is when I learnt that this book had won

RADIO SILENCE by Alice Oseman | Book Review

TITLE: Radio Silence AUTHOR: Alice Oseman PUBLICATION YEAR: 2016 GENRE: Young Adult Contemporary + LGBT Fiction PAGE COUNT: 403 FORMAT: Paperback AVAILABLE   AT : amazon   I came to know about this book through booktube . There was a booktuber who in one of her   videos started crying while talking about it. I was really taken aback by that. It was really heartening to see how a certain book can bring out such overwhelming emotions . I checked out   a few more reviews- all of which were positive   before buying this one. It was unanimously rated as a 5 star book . Obviously my expectations going into this book were super high. The story is about a girl named Frances who is extremely studious . She calls herself a study machine. Other than academics, the only thing she is obsessed with is a YouTube show UNIVERSE CITY /RADIO SILENCE . Her happiness knew no bounds   when one day, the mystery creator   impressed by her fan art   asked her to create some ar

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS TAG | Book Tag

I don’t set New Year resolutions because I always end up breaking it in the first week of January itself. But it is good to have a plan/goal which will help me choose the books I intend on exploring . Also, it is a great way to kickstart your reading year. Last year, my book shelf was filled with my favourite   genre “ Fantasy” as I have no self control .. LOL!! I am an overtly indulgent person who loves getting obsessed with things I love thereby totally ignoring the ones which don’t necessarily count as my favourite. But this year I would like to explore other genres . Hence this Tag “ NEW YEARS RESOLUTION TAG ” is sort of like my reading goal for the year 2019. An author you’d like to read ( that you’ve never read before) VE Schwab . People have been talking about how much they adore her books – Vicious, Shades of Magic series etc. Also, the plot of her stories are pretty unique and interesting . I can’t wait to try them out.   A book you’d like to read Any VE
