2018 Reading Wrap Up & FAVOURITES

It is that time of the year when one reflects on the year gone by and starts making New Year Resolutions. I feel like 2018 is the year when I truly enjoyed being a reader/ bibliophile. I started getting more and more involved in the bookish community and my love for books amplified. According to my goodreads account , I have read a total of 54 books this year. This was way beyond my expectation.   You can check  out my good reads account ( here ) to see the ratings I gave to all these 54 books that I consumed last year. Below I am going to list out some favourites of mine which made a huge impact to my reading life. TOP 5 FAVOURITE BOOKS Following consists of my favourite books that I read in the year 2018. 1.         Harry Potter series by JK Rowling – It may sound insane but this year, I read Harry Potter for the first time. As a kid, I had watched a couple of harry potter movies and enjoyed it. Reading these books as an adult was extremely enjoyable. Except for

The Way Of KINGS by Brandon Sanderson | BOOK REVIEW

TITLE: The Way of Kings   (Book 1 of THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE   series) AUTHOR: Brandon Sanderson PUBLICATION YEAR: 2010 GENRE: High Fantasy PAGE COUNT: 1252 FORMAT: Mass Market Paperback AVAILABLE   AT : amazon It took me almost a month to finish this mammoth of a book “ The Way of Kings “ by Brandon Sanderson . It was a huge commitment and   I enjoyed every bit of it. At first glance, you may feel a bit intimidated but I urge you to give it a try. It is totally worth your time. Throughout this whole month , I was so immersed in this story and its characters that I was constantly thinking about it even when I was not reading the book. I might have made atleast a million theories and multiple predictions about the story . Honestly, I have never been so involved in a story to this extent. This post may seem less like a review and more like me singing praises for this book. I am going to cite out reasons why you should give t

The Knife of Never Letting Go BY Patrick Ness | BOOK REVIEW

TITLE: The Knife Of Never Letting Go (Book 1 Of CHAOS WALKING series) AUTHOR: Patrick Ness PUBLICATION YEAR: 2008 GENRE: Young Adult Science Fiction PAGE COUNT: 479 FORMAT: Paperback AVAILABLE   AT : amazon   Ever since I read and loved   The Monster Calls ( see Review here ) by Patrick Ness ,I have been trying to read more of his books . The Chaos Walking Series is the one that everyone seemed to be recommending.   Also if I am not   mistaken   there is a movie coming up starring Tom Holland based on this series   next year. So I bought the first book The Knife of Never Letting Go to try and see if I like it   so that I can continue on with the series. The story follows a boy named Todd Hewitt who is believed to be the last boy in this strange town called prentisstown where exists no women.   It   is   more or less like a dystopian world where men are able to hear each other’s thoughts . At the beginning of the story, he is

More Happy Than Not By Adam Silvera | BOOK REVIEW

TITLE: More Happy Than Not AUTHOR: Adam Silvera PUBLICATION YEAR: 2015 GENRE: Young Adult Contemporary, LGBT PAGE COUNT: 293 FORMAT: Paperback AVAILABLE   AT : amazon   I have seen this book feature in the favourite LGBT Book list of most Book Tubers . I have also seen it being applauded by people who don’t necessarily like reading Contemporaries. So when I decided to read an Adam Silvera , I chose this one to read first. Adam Silvera is a popular Young Adult writer who is known to have written a lot of gut wrenching sad stories that could make even a heartless soul cry. I didn’t end up crying but it definitely shook me – not because it was depressing but because I never thought the narrative would take such an unexpected turn towards the second half of the book. But let me say this out loud- I absolutely hated the first 170 pages of this 300 page book. I don’t know what got into me to continue reading a book that I clearly ha

The Book Of M by Peng Shepherd | BOOK REVIEW

TITLE: The Book Of M AUTHOR: Peng Shepherd PUBLICATION YEAR: 2018 GENRE: Dystopian, Fantasy PAGE COUNT: 485 FORMAT: Paperback AVAILABLE   AT : amazon   Anything with the word “ BOOK ” on the title of a novel is enough to draw my attention . And that’s exactly   what prompted me to pick up “ The Book of M ” by Peng Shepherd .   The story is based on a dystopian world setting where people are losing their shadows and memories. With such a cool concept, I went into it with moderately high expectations. While reading it, I kept on wondering of the consequences us humans have to face if this theory/concept   becomes a reality. How are we possibly   going to survive without our memories? The story is told in 4 different perspectives – Ory , Max , Naz and someone who is referred to as “ The One Who Gathers ”.   These people are living in a world where people are gradually losing their shadows and eventually their memories . Ory and Ma

The BookBlog NEWBIE Tag | BookTag

I have been blogging since July this year, so it is fair to still call me a Newbie of sorts. Hence   –   THE BOOKBLOG NEWBIE TAG. Why did you start this blog? The credit goes to my husband . I have always relied on   journal / diary entries to   put my countless thoughts on paper. One day he happened to come across one of such entries where I was gushing about a book that I recently read. He suggested putting it on the internet . At first , I was a bit hesitant due to various reasons- fear of being judged , trolled and all sorts of negativity . However   he   relentlessly tried   to convince me saying that it would be a great creative outlet for me. So after months and months of hassling , I posted my first blog post in July this year. What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging? I am at the learning stage where I discover   new stuff about this blog business practically every day. I shall   come up with something fun and unique pretty soon. One of

LESS By Andrew Sean Greer | BOOK REVIEW

PUBLICATION YEAR: 2017 GENRE: Satirical Comedy, LGBT, Literary Fiction PAGE COUNT: 261 FORMAT: Paperback AVAILABLE   AT : amazon   Lately I have been experimenting with my reading by trying out different genre, classics and critically acclaimed books.   So last month   I bought a couple of Pulitzer award winning novels in order to give it a try. Honestly   I went into this novel with middle to low expectations. The reason being-   I read another Pulitzer award winning novel   “ All The Light We Cannot See “ a little while back and could not even manage to finish it as i found it EXHAUSTING ( check out my post my experience reading All The Light We Cannot See ) . Hence I was incredibly surprised at how much enjoyable this book turned out to be. It is about a failed author Andrew Less who is about to turn 50. One day, he receives a wedding invitation from an ex boyfriend of 9 years who is engaged to someone else. Less doesn’t want to refuse thi
